Darwin’s Darkest Hour

Filmed in Nova Scotia in June, “Darwin’s Darkest Hour” tells the remarkable story behind the unveiling of the most influential scientific theory of all time, Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection. The two-hour drama focuses on the period just before the publication of his book “On the Origin of Species”.

The program is a special presentation from NOVA and National Geographic Television, written by acclaimed British screenwriter John Goldsmith and directed by John Bradshaw.

Nigel plays geologist Sir Charles Lyell, who was a close friend to Darwin and who encouraged him to publish “On the Origin of Species”.

The film is now available on DVD. A video of the “Making of” can be viewed here.
